Down The Street #3 with Eddie Navega and Dear Donna

We’re well on our way into our local band showcase series now and we’re having a great time, we hope you are too!

You may notice our event flyers for Down The Street say “Kilson Street Presents”, that’s our sister project established in 2013 in our hometown, Santa Ana, CA. Kilson Street’s focus has always been to provide a spotlight for bands making their way through the local music scene. The years we put in with Kilson Street, getting to know musicians through interviews and recorded live performances, laid the foundation for our more technical work with Stanford Sound and Stage.

We’ve been fortunate to continue Kilson Street as a project that is very intentionally Santa Ana focused. We collaborate with fellow Santa Ana-based organizations for in-town events such as Libromobile’s upcoming Tardeada Con Familia series taking place on April 21st, May 19th, and June 16th from 3PM-5PM outside the Bristol Food Court. It’s FREE and open to the public! We highly recommend stopping by this community event put on by Santa Ana’s ONLY independent bookstore.

While Stanford Sound and Stage is a reflection of our passions turned career-path that reach throughout Southern California. Kilson Street and Santa Ana holds our heart. With Down The Street we are happy to feature home grown talent AND invite musicians from outside Santa Ana. The March featuring performers Eddie Navega and Dear Donna is a great example of that.

Eddie Navega is a Santa Ana local musician you’re likely to catch at one of the many great Open Mic nights around town. Guitar and harmonica in tow, he’s a stand-out singer/songwriter in English and Spanish. Backing Eddie Navega at Down The Street were some of the finest musicians in our area who, like Eddie, stand strong as original soloists, members of cover bands, and in collaboration groups as they did this night. Our recap video features Eddie’s final song of the night “On Broadway, On Main St.” which we love and connect with so much we hope to make it the theme song of our Down The Street series.

Our second band of the night, Dear Donna, is made up of members who travel many miles to make music together and we’re thankful for it. Lead singer, Shaden, hails from Irvine while her band members are based in the Inland Empire and they have a midway point rehearsal location! The dedication to their craft is evident in this six-piece group that meshes so well together for a sound that is pure and eclectic at the same time. Enjoy this video of their song “Unstuck” featuring Shaden’s ethereal, soul-filled vocals.

The homies (and our neighbors!) Resident Vinyl heads literally down the street to pop up with us at El Indio Botanas Y Cerveza. Owen is out there putting in work curating wax for your digging pleasure and creating a music playlist for each Down The Street night that compliments that month’s featured acts.

Thank you, Owen! For this month’s song spotlight from Resident Vinyl’s Down The Street playlist, we’ve chosen “MRS MOONLIGHT” by Yellow Days, currently available for PRE-ORDER on Resident Vinyl’s website. Take a look! You can order records from Resident Vinyl online 24/7, they’ll mail the record to you OR you can pick up your order in-store at Resident Vinyl’s brick-and-mortar location 222 N. Bush St. Santa, Ana Ca 92701. Our recommendation is to walk in to Resident Vinyl and say Hi! to their shop pug, Ozzy, he is pug perfection.

These days Stanford Sound and Stage is a major priority for us as we provide top quality sound engineering and live event services to Riverside County, Los Angeles County, and the greater Orange County area. But we are so fortunate and thankful that we are still able to work with organizations and artists through the foundations we laid with Kilson Street in Santa Ana. Thank you to all who make these night so special! And a special thank you to El Indio Botanas Y Cerveza for their trust, hospitality, and collaboration.
