Two great Santa Ana bands and a vinyl pop-up by Resident Vinyl made this a night to remember.
“Down The Street” sprouted from mid-2023 chats: how to regularly showcase local indie bands at El Indio. Running our small business sharpened our priorities. This reinforced our love for live events and realized the power of consistency and time management. Consistency meant a steady schedule, understanding that bringing ideas to life often takes months, especially for stress-free events. We still crave the thrill of deadlines, but now, thankfully, we can sometimes set our own pace.
That’s how “Down The Street” came to be. From our many years of working with indie bands, cover bands, cumbia bands, and DJs at El Indio, we were able to present a new night once we felt fully ready to commit our time and efforts. You can find new and local music one Thursday a month “Down The Street” at El Indio.
First up was Los Ratones Atomicos. They have a sound that’s Garage/Surf Punk with a great energy that takes us back to our days in the Kilson Street garage. Their set was awesome and included a cover of Disco by Surf Curse. Check their full performance below (minus the Surf Curse song due to copyright issues on YouTube) But that’s all the more reason to catch their set live sometime.
Rounding out the night was another Santa Ana grown band: Th@. Yup, you read that right. Th@ can best be described as… well it depends which band member you ask… Boogie Bop, Modern Stone Age, or Post-Punk. We agree with all three. They’re definitely a fun time. And a special mention to Th@ band member, Chrissa, for an epic hula hoop solo!
The last element of these nights is the addition of the Resident Vinyl Pop-Up Shop. Resident Vinyl is operating out of the bottom floor of their loft literally down the street from El Indio in Downtown Santa Ana. We are super grateful for Owen and his enthusiasm for wanting to be a part of these events. He’ll be making a playlist for every Down the Street event. Thursday nights Spotify playlist was actually one of my favorites so far in this short year. Check it out here:

A standout from this playlist is “Floating Features” by La Luz. Really killer track that you can listen to on their record “Floating Features” that’s available now on the Resident Vinyl website.
Thanks to all the folks that showed up this past Thursday. These events are meant to bring musicians and fans of music together for a night of good times and networking. And if you didn’t make it, we have the videos above and some photos below for your viewing pleasure.
See ya on February 29 for the next one!
